PHOTOS: ISIS Religious Police Confiscate & Burn Cigarettes in Mosul

In a new photo report purportedly released by the Islamic State, ISIS religious police known as "hisbah" confiscate and destroy cigarettes in accordance with sharia law. The photo report was released on ISIS terrorist channels on January 21. An accompanying summary of the photo report reads: "Aspects of the Work of Hisbah Center in #Mosul City - Confiscating and Destroying an Amount of Cigarettes." In ISIS-occupied lands, hisbah dole out severe punishments for the use of alcohol, cursing, smoking, and other acts deemed "haram," or sinful. Cigarettes are allowed under normal Islamic law, but ISIS' extreme interpretation of the religion views cigarettes as "slow suicide" and thus they are forbidden.
